Veterans rally to gain public access to the memorial site that is now housing shelter for illegal immigrants

CHICAGO, IL - A former Marine Corps building in the North Park neighborhood has been turned into a housing center for illegal immigrants, no longer allowing for public access to a memorial, even to those who are veterans.


According to ABC 7, on Friday, May 17th, a group of veterans gathered outside of the memorial site to peacefully request that the memorial again be accessible to those who want to pay tribute and recognize the more than dozen servicemen who gave the ultimate sacrifice defending this country.


The veterans came from all over, including from other states, and gathered to honor the 16 servicemen. U.S. Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Tim Jensen said, "We do not have access to paying respects and homage to the men that gave their lives in the deployments in 2004 and 2008."


For years after the Marine Corps left the building, those wishing to pay their respects at the three-pillared memorial still were able to, periodically. However, when the City decided to start using the building last year as housing for illegal immigrants, they also made the area not available to the public.


Jenson said, "We are apolitical people. What we care about is the sanctity and the reverence of the community and the remembrance of our brothers that lost their lives." Jensen is helping lead the charge for renewed access to the memorial site, along with others like Sgt. Stephen Chassee. Chassee said, "I've been to retirement ceremonies here. I've been to reenlistment ceremonies here. We can't do anything in there. We can't even come pay homage on Memorial Day. So, that's a big problem."

An illegal Mexico migrant has been accused of being a serial rapist after officials said they caught him in the act in his ‘rape dungeon on wheels’ this week in California.

Eduardo Sarabia has been charged with sexually assaulting two women near the Angeles National Forest between May 12 and 13. He is being held without bail.

Police discovered Sarabia allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman off of Highway 39 in the Angeles National Forest in his ‘rigged for rape’ 2015 Ford Transit van.

According to deputies, the accused would offer rides under the pretext that he was camping in the San Gabriel Mountains before taking them to an area with no cell phone signal off mile marker 21 on Highway 39.

Footage shows condoms, ropes, bungees, children's toys, multiple cell phones, hard drives as well as worn and stained mattress scattered inside the vehicle. 
A metal partition in the back that is locked form the outside can be seen. 
Officials say Sarabia kept his victims locked inside the 'cage,' in order to 'take them to a remote location and rape them.'
The van also has no windows in the back and is now under 24-hour surveillance, according to FOX.

Feds Ban Memorial Day Event to Honor Fallen Heroes From National Cemetery, Call it a ‘Demonstration’

Since the 1960s, the Knights of Columbus have held a Memorial Day event at the Poplar Grove National Cemetery in Petersburg, VA.
For the last two years, however, The National Park Service (NPS) has refused permission for the event due to a new policy prohibiting “religious services”  and calling the ceremony to honor this nation’s fallen heroes a “demonstration.”
The park service has instead said the event must take place in a nearby “free speech zone.”

The Knights and their attorneys say the decision by park officials violates the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
