با تصمیم هیئت‌مدیره باشگاه استقلال، دکتر علی خطیر از سمت‌مدیرعاملی باشگاه برکنار و دکتر فرشید سمیعی به عنوان سرپرست مدیرعاملی انتخاب شد.
علت اخراج خطیر، واریز مبلغ ۵۰ میلیارد تومان به حساب اعضای تیم آن هم بدون دریافت مجوز از مالکان بوده است.
