Sergei Eisenstein wurde am 10. Juni 1898 in Riga geboren und verstarb am 11. Februar 1948 in Moskau. Er stellte für die damalige junge Sowjetunion etwas ähnliches dar wie die in Deutschland aufgekommene Epoche des Experimentalfilms als künstlerische Nutzung des neuen Mediums des Films.
