سیرت، یعنی هر حرکت و سکون، هر سخن و رفتار، هر کنش و واکنش و هر موقف‌گیری و روی‌کردِ پیامبر صلی الله علیه و سلم.
سیرت، شرحِ وجودِ امت، با تمام مراحل و پیش‌رفت‌ها و آثار و جنبندگی‌های آن است. جایی که نصوص صحیح با فهم سلف صالح، همراه با عاطفه و عقل و واقع، ارتباط برقرار می‌کنند؛ تا با این تصور جامع از دین، به یقینی برسیم که با آن بر دردها و سختی‌ها چیره شویم و نگذاریم سختی‌ها و مشقت‌ها بینایی‌مان را از ما بگیرد و دردها باعث شوند حقیقت خود را فراموش کنیم که «ما تا روز رستاخیز، سرنوشت رقم‌خوردهٔ الهی در زندگی بشر هستیم»، «هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُ بِالْهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ» (اوست خدایی که رسول خود را با هدایت و دین حق فرستاد؛ تا آن را بر همهٔ ادیان عالم تسلط و برتری دهد، هر چند مشرکان ناراضی و مخالف باشند).
از این‌جاست که مطالعهٔ همهٔ رخ‌دادهای سیرت، امری‌ست لازمی.
