1. Question: what is ad-hiyah?
Answer: A name for what is slaughtered from bahiimatul An'am (livestock) on the Day of nahr and of the days of tashreek to get closer to Allaah.
2. Question :Is it legislated?
Answer:Yes, it's legislated.
3. Question: what's the ruling?
Answer: it's an emphatic Sunnah not compulsory ie sunnatu mu-akkadah.
4. Question: what's the condition?
Answer: it has to be from bahimatul An'am grazing lifestock which are camel, cow, ram and goat.
5. Question: which is most preferred of the three?
Answer: a camel, then a cow, then a ram and then a goat.
6. Question: as a condition, what should be their years?
Answer:
Five year old for camel
Two year old for cow
Six months old for sheep
One year old for goat.
7. Question: what are the perfect qualities they should have?
Answer: they should be 1. Fat 2. White and mixed with black (for rams). 3. Male. 4.
8. Question: What defects would make them not fit for Ad-hiyah?
Answer:
1. One-eyed whose defect is clear.
2. The Sick, whose defect is clear .
3. The limp whose defect is clear.
4. Emaciated.
9. Question: When does the slaughtering start and for how long?
Answer: from after the imaam observes salah till the end of 13th day.
Benefit : if one slaughters before the imaam, then it's just meat not ad-hiyah
10. Question: What do you say while slaughtering?
Answer: you say BismiLlaah and Allahu Akbar.
11. Question: what the ruling for tasmiyah for Ad-hiyah and other slaughterings?
Answer: it's compulsory and eating the meat of the animal that the tasmiyah was not done is prohibited.
12. Question: if one forgets the tasmiyah, what's the ruling? Answer: eating the meat of the animal that the tasmiyah was not done is prohibited.
13. Question: how do you place the animal you want to slaughter? Answer: it would be placed on its right side and your leg on their sides.
Benefit: as for the camel, you may kill it while it's standing.
14. Question: Is it a condition that the animal faces the qiblah while being slaughtered?
Answer: no, it's not, rather it's good.
15. Question: Is it preferred that the owner slaughters or he deputizes?
Answer: it's better he himself slaughters.
16. Question: how many people suffices to share in a camel, cow, ram and goat?
Answer: 1. for a man and his family: a ram or goat.
2. For seven persons : a cow.
3. For ten persons :a camel .
17. Question: What's prohibited on a person who intends slaughtering?
Answer: he should not clip his nails nor shave any hairs of his from his privates, head or pubic.
Benefit : if he violates this instruction, then, this doesn't affect the acceptance of his slaughter, rather upon him is istigfaar and Tawbah.
18. Question: Is the prohibition for the person or his family?
Answer: for the person who intends slaughtering alone.
19. Question: can he give the butcher who prepared the slaughter some meat as a price?
Answer: no, this is not permissible, he can only give him as a gift.
Benefit: nothing of the meat should be sold.
20. Question: can he slaughter in the night of the periods?
Answer: Yes, but what preferred it is during the day.
21. Question: can he store the meat of the Ad-hiyah?
Answer: Yes, he can.
Benefit: it's Sunnah to eat a part, give out a part as sodaqo or gift and store a part of it.
