Good afternoon everyone. I am Sam Cheung and I am here with Wong Ji-Yuet today submitting our nominations together for the upcoming legislative election. Both of us hope to deliver our message that the localist ideas we proposed have already been thoroughly examined and have gained the support among Hongkongers: Hong Kong is and always will be our homeland.

About the primary election

The result of the primaries is a clear message to Hongkongers that localism has indeed become the mainstream of the current political inclination. Over 1/4 of the voters in Hong Kong have voted for the localists, one of the biggest sectors in the democratic primaries. Take New Territories West for instance, 73% of the voters have voted to resistance camps, while 45% of the voters in total placed their votes to the localist candidates. This result serves as a remarkable milestone of an official recognition of localism by the majorities.

What winning the primaries means to us is over 600k HK electorates chose to vote for democracy, regardless of what parties they voted for. This primaries is a shot in the arm to the people who still have faith in Hong Kong and to demonstrate that we are the ones who truly gained the citizens’ authorization.

About the disqualification and confirmation form

In any case that any of us got disqualified, it is not a mere political prosecution towards a particular candidate nor his/her advocacy. It is, rather, a visible violation of the wills from the electorates. We, as the representatives chosen by Hongkongers, should not be the one to worry about getting disqualified. It is the Returning officers, in fact, Carrie Lam’s concern of why they chose to take the path which is against the voters’ wills. It is a betrayal to the voters, to the citizens, and to this land.

Whether signing the confirmation form or not is never a decisive factor to get oneself disqualified. What we have learnt back in 2016 is you could still be kicked out of the game even if you have signed the form. Not to mention that this form is not a document we must sign regarding to the application procedure. We will only submit the ones which are essential in official and lawful terms.

All Hongkongers are all on the same boat right now and there is no turning back. Ji-yuet and I, therefore, will serve the frontier in the protection of our home, no matter the odds.

What Is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that you can buy, sell and exchange directly, without an intermediary like a bank. Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, originally described the need for “an electronic payment system based on cryptographic proof instead of trust.” Each and every Bitcoin transaction that’s ever been made exists on a public ledger accessible to everyone, making transactions hard to reverse and difficult to fake. That’s by design: Core to their decentralized nature, Bitcoins aren’t backed by the government or any issuing institution, and there’s nothing to guarantee their value besides the proof baked in the heart of the system. “The reason why it’s worth money is simply because we, as people, decided it has value—same as gold,” says Anton Mozgovoy, co-founder & CEO of digital financial service company Holyheld.

Telegram hopes to raise $1bn with a convertible bond private placement

The super secure UAE-based Telegram messenger service, developed by Russian-born software icon Pavel Durov, is looking to raise $1bn through a bond placement to a limited number of investors from Russia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the Kommersant daily reported citing unnamed sources on February 18, 2021.The issue reportedly comprises exchange bonds that could be converted into equity in the messaging service that is currently 100% owned by Durov and his brother Nikolai.Kommersant reports that the price of the conversion would be at a 10% discount to a potential IPO should it happen within five years. The minimum bond placement is said to be set at $50mn, but could be lowered to $10mn. Five-year bonds could carry an annual coupon of 7-8%.
