Answer to Q45

7, 15, 31, ?

I knowingly added this question because it's equivocal. I saw the question somewhere and solved it only for the publisher to tell I was wrong. Solved it another way and got a different answer (correct according to the publisher). I included the two answers in the options!

First Answer
Difference between 15 and 7 = 8
Difference between 31 and 15 = 16
So, the series is n + (8 x y). Where y > 1 and n = previous number and y = position of previous number

So, answer = 31 + (8 x 3) = 31 + 24 = 55

Second Answer
15 = (7 x 2) + 1
31 = (15 x 2) + 1

So, answer = (31 x 2) + 1 = 63

Answer: both 55 and 63 are correct

Mr. Durov launched Telegram in late 2013 with his brother, Nikolai, just months before he was pushed out of VK, the Russian social-media platform he founded. Mr. Durov pitched his new app—funded with the proceeds from the VK sale—less as a business than as a way for people to send messages while avoiding government surveillance and censorship.

The S&P 500 slumped 1.8% on Monday and Tuesday, thanks to China Evergrande, the Chinese property company that looks like it is ready to default on its more-than $300 billion in debt. Cries of the next Lehman Brothers—or maybe the next Silverado?—echoed through the canyons of Wall Street as investors prepared for the worst.
