Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI)

● It measures changes in the retail prices of food items consumed by the population.

- Relation to CPI: The CFPI is a sub-component of the CPI, focusing exclusively on food items.

- Usage:

● By the RBI: To monitor and manage inflation.

● By CSO: CSO under Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation , is responsible for releasing CFPI data.

- Categories: CFPI data is released for 3 categories:

● Rural
● Urban
● Combined (rural and urban)

- Frequency: The index is calculated and published monthly.

- Start Date: The CSO started releasing CFPI data separately on an all-India basis from May 2014.

- Base Year:
● The base year currently used for CFPI is 2012.It was revised from 2010 to 2012 in January 2015
