♦️ Steps of Evidence Based Medicine 🎙️✨
🔶 The elements of EBM are summarized in Five simple steps :
🔹ASK :
Translation of a patient's clinical problem into a well-structured, focused clinical question.
🔹ACQUIRE :
Finding the relevant evidence that helps answer the clinical question is done by searching the literature by way of databases, guidelines, and journal articles.
🔹APPRAISE :
Testing the validity (closeness to the truth), impact (size of the effect), and applicability (usefulness in our clinical practice). Although there is a wealth of research articles available, the quality of these is variable.
🔹APPLY :
Next, we have to decide whether that evidence can be applied to our individual patient or population.
The decision should also take into account costs and the availability of that particular treatment in practice.
🔹EVALUATE :
As we incorporate EBM into routine clinical practice, we need to evaluate our approach at frequent intervals and decide whether we need to improve on any steps.
🔸Did the evidence help the patient?
🔸Does the process need to be changed or updated?
