In SMPlayer in Preferences under Advanced tab / Mplayer/mpv tab in Options: --video-aspect-override=2.35:1 brightness=-100

Useful keyboard shortcuts:
Subtitles decrease/increase fontscale Shift+R / Shift+T
Brightness decrease/increase key 3 / 4
