Ранее в Храме Христа Спасителя через царские ворота пронесли плащаницу, а позже врата были закрыты. В кафедральном соборе оставили гореть только свечи с священным огнем из Иерусалима. Спустя несколько минут свет вновь загорелся, осветив путь участникам Крестного хода. Богослужение прошло под сопровождение колокольного звона, который услышала буквально вся Москва.
