В англійській мові є таке явище, яке називають Ablaut Reduplication. Згрубша кажучи, це є закономірність, яка визначає порядок голосних в нонсенсних новотворах або при редуплікації складів, як-от ding-dong (не dong-ding), tik-tok (не tok-tik), chit-chat, tic-tac-toe.

Як правило, голосні рухаються спереду назад. Тобто першими будуть голосні переднього ряду — далі заднього.
