Соответствующее распоряжение подписал премьер-министр РФ Михаил Мишустин. Его будут отмечать 1 декабря — в день рождения математика Николая Лобачевского.
Предложил отмечать День математика ректор МГУ Виктор Садовничий во время Всероссийского съезда учителей и преподавателей математики, который прошёл в МГУ в ноябре 2023 года.
