الشمولية – Totalitarianism: يقصد بها نظام الحكم الشمولي، والذي يعتبر أعنف صور الديكتاتورية وأكثرها استبدادًا، فهذا النظام يفرض سيطرته على الشعب في كافة مناحي الحياة، من خلال التحكم الكامل بالإعلام والاقتصاد والتعليم بل حتى بالحريات الشخصية، يمكننا القول أن النظام الشمولي هو عبارة عن أيديولوجيا متطرفة تسعى لفرض نفسها على المواطنين، من خلال السيطرة على أفعالهم وأفكارهم بل وحتى مراقبتهم، فالنظام الشمولي يعتمد بشكل أساسي على أجهزة أمنية قوية تنتهج القمع والعنف.
